I wanted to show my readers just how beautiful and imaginative the homes of New Orleans are, if you like them as much as I do, please donate to help the homes of Louisiana and its residents survive another day. New Orleans Plantation Country is home to 10 of the country’s oldest, largest, and most beautifully designed homes! Dating back over 200 years, New Orleans plantation homes are designated historical landmarks by the U.S. government.
There’s a bit of irony to see this delicate and charming home—decked out in gingerbread house-style gables and spindlework—standing where an explosives factory once had. The house was sold in 1867 but passed into new hands due to bankruptcy and then an auction, where one woman bought and then conveyed the home to Ann Eliza Gary, the wife of Confederate veteran and cotton factor John T. Hardie in 1869. The Hardie family brought another set of six children along with four live-in servants, adding three more children and one more servant in the first ten years. After an additional four years with 16 people under one roof, Mrs. Hardie purchased an adjacent lot to expand. Mrs. Pipes sold the home to her grandson-in-law and federal judge Wayne Borah, whose heirs sold the property to Harry Merritt Lane Jr. in 1966.

“One of the Friends' major sources of funding is conducting twice-daily, two-hour history and architecture-focused walking tours of the city's historic center, the French Quarter. For the past several years, I've been privileged both to give many of these tours myself and to help train many new volunteer tour guides to do the same,” he told us. On the banks of the Bayou St. John, the Pitot House is a Creole colonial country house known for its tangled gardens, solid shutters, and Caribbean sugar plantation vibe. The Pitot House is one of the oldest in the city, dating back to the 1700s, and is named for James Pitot, the first "American" mayor of New Orleans. This grande dame was also once a convent started by Mother Cabrini in the early 20th century, but today it houses the Louisiana Landmark Society and is open to the public most weeks, from Wednesday to Saturday. Pilling recent inspected and replaced according to Levee Board Management. Walk or boat to New Orleans lakefront restaurants or build your own house for residential living. If you wander from the Lower Ninth along through the Upper Ninth and to Marigny and the Bywater you’ll walk past a rainbow of colours painted on the walls of the homes. There’s something about brightly coloured houses that just makes you feel so happy, and when you combine that with the charming design of these wooden houses, you can’t help but fall in love. I can’t think of anything I would want more than a house like these, with a big wooden porch outside and a rocking chair to laze away the day in, shouting out to my friends across the way.

Since Broadmoor has been known to take on a lot of water in emergency situations past, a lot of the houses are built on a raised basement. There are lots of bungalow styles with stucco, and those cool wavy red Spanish style roofs, as well as many Arts & Crafts-designed homes. This house, currently for sale, is a large Arts & Crafts style with a raised basement. Those clean, strong lines, wood accents on the windows, the railings, the ceilings... To be fair, Arts & Crafts-style houses turn me into a puddle of mush, and this one is extra special.
While a section of the house was divided into apartments from 1912 to 1985, five generations of Trufants have occupied the main residence and still do today. Even after a fire in 2015, the family had the property meticulously restored to blend the original architect’s design with the comforts of any modern home. Architect Francois Correjolles built this beautifully restored home in 1826 for a wealthy auctioneer.
